Before heading west to the Kimberley we spend a few lovely and relaxing days in Litchfield National Park. Litchfield National Park is known for its waterfalls and waterholes and we tried every single one of them. Such a nice refreshment on hot days.

For some 4WD fun we took the Raynolds River Track to the south of the park wherer we also visited the Blyth Homestead.

On our way to Darwin we stopped into Kakadu National Park. Unfortuntely we had some car problems and our stay got cut short. In the few days we got to swim in some nice waterholes, learned a few things about the wetlands in Kakadu Nationnal Park and got to see some amazing rock art.

8. September 2009 More of the Savannah Way

After Lawn Hill National Park we got back onto the Savannah Way to Katherine. We stopped for some great bushcamping on the Calvent River. On this stretch of road we had to cross quite a few rivers, which was great fun.

Only our rear right tyre was a bit a downer… We already had to get it fixed in Cairns but after the Savannah Way we had two more punctures. Patrick and Marianne managed to successfully plug them along the way, which saved us to change tyres.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Lawn Hill National Park as it was safe to swim in the water. A nice cool swim is always welcome by the current temperatures. It is still dry season / winter but most days the temperature goes well above 30 degrees.

We hired canoes to paddle up the gorge to the cascades. This was great fun and it saved us walking up there in the sun.

Lawn Hill National Park also offered a few good walks to some great lookouts and a very nice rock art gallery. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take any pictures.
