24. June 2009 From Bad to Worse
5 Comments Published in Trips by MarianneOn Thursday we embarked on our trip through Australia. We drove from Sydney to Lyonville, in central Victoria, in two days where we spent a lovely weekend with friends. Unfortunately Anton had some terrible tooth pain and we had to stop at the dentist in Ballarat to get him fixed. On Monday we continued our journey through Victoria to South Australia.
After almost 2000km we encountered the first troubles with our car ‘Bruce’. We were driving along a lovely country road when half the warning lights on the dashboard lit up. We stopped the car, popped the bonnet and noticed that all the fan belts were ripped. We replaced them with the spares we had and bought some new spares on the way. Only a few kilometers up the road the dashboard lit up again. One of the fan belts was already ripped again and we had noticed an unusual noise coming from engine. By then we were quite worried! We didn’t bother about fixing the car again. Instead we drove to the next biggest village to get a mechanic to look at the car.
When you pull up at the repair place and three mechanics drop their work to look at your car because of the noise coming from the engine, you know that it is bad. It was clear that our car needed some essential work before we can continue our trip.
Please don’t feel too sorry for us. We are stuck in Clare, in one of the major wine regions in South Australia. With the hire car we got from the mechanics we explored the area and tasted some great wine. There are far worse places in the world to be stuck!
Aktionvoll
Hi guys
Are you back on the road yet?
If it makes you feel any better Amy and I nearly did not make it past Clare when returning from our honeymoon two years ago, luckily for us they had a $2 shop that sold some G clamps that solved what had become a rather serious oil on the Disco!
It seems your problems are a little more involved, but don’t lose heart it is all part of the adventure
I hope it is all sorted. You could do worse than being stuck in Clare (although not the warmest part of SA!).

How are the Swiss/Aussie Nomads going? Was wondering what has been the update with Bruce and where are you now? Hopefully all is going well and you are safe.
Will look forward to the next posting on the site and hope Anton’s tooth is not causing too much grief?
Love

WOW guys, these photos are fantastic.
Hi folks
Just a few lines to let you all know that we are avidly following the trip across Australia. It’s a pity about Bruce, but as you say such a watering-hole you don’t find everyday. Anton sorry to hear about “That” tooth again but keeping smiling.
Regards to all
David and Beat
