15. July 2009 Palm Valley and Gosse Bluff
2 Comments Published in Trips by MarianneFrom the Red Centre we drove over the Mereenie Loop. This is a great, but very corrugated, shortcut to get from Kings Canyon to the West Macdonnell Ranges. First we headed to Palm Valley in the Finke Gorge National Park. The Palm Valley is a unique oasis with palms and water in the middle of the desert.
The next day we stopped at Gosse Bluff, the site of a comet impact, on Namatjira Drive. This was pretty impressive to see what damage such an impact could cause, as it was estimated to have released energy more than 1000 times the hiroshima bomb. The impact would have impacted weather patterns around the world for years.
